Lip Augmentation

Achieve a More Youthful and Sensual Appearance

Plump full lips are desirable for many patients. Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas offers a variety of lip augmentation methods to help patients achieve a more youthful and sensual appearance to the smile. The lip augmentation procedure not only enhances the fullness of the lips but also reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles around the mouth. The surgical options offered include fat or other material grafting which is implanted in the operating room. Injectable solutions including Restylane are described in other sections on this site.

The Surgery

AlloDerm is a very popular biomedical grafting material which is inserted through four incisions made in the inside corners of the mouth. The implants are inserted into the lips and cut to the most appropriate size for the patient's individual lips. Fine stitches are placed to close the incision sites. AlloDerm lip augmentation results typically last between two and five years.

Fat grafting/transfer involves moving the patient's own fat from one area of the body to the lips. Our doctors will remove fat from one area (e.g., abdomen or hips) with precise liposuction and carefully prepare it for insertion into the lips. The fat is then injected into the lips through a blunt needle and syringe. This will cause a very small puncture wound that is typically less than 2 mm in diameter. The liposuction involved in this procedure is significantly smaller than what is performed in typical liposuction procedures. The results of fat grafting augmentation can last anywhere from six months to several years.

The duration of most lip augmentation surgery arranges between a half hour to two hours. Immediately following the procedure, the lips will be swollen and painful. Cold compresses gently applied will be used to minimize the swelling. Talking and chewing should be avoided as much as possible for the first 48 hours.

The Risks

There are typically few risks associated with lip augmentation surgery. Among them are dissatisfaction, infection, numbness, or stiffness in the lips.

A personal consultation with our doctors will cover the variety of options available as well as which approach might be best for you. So if you're considering lip augmentation at our Dallas, Texas facility please contact us today to learn more about your personal consultation.
