RADIESSE®

WHAT IS RADIESSE® ?

Radiesse is a non-invasive dermal filler that is typically used to help diminish the signs of aging. Made of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel, Radiesse is injected into the target area with a tiny needle. It is used to treat wrinkles and fine lines throughout the facial skin in order to reverse a loss of volume. Because it is comprised of ingredients that occur naturally in the body, there is nearly no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.

Loss of volume and slower collagen production leads to certain signs of aging such as creases around the mouth and nose. Therefore, once injected, Radiesse’s unique formulation stimulates collagenesis – the production of collagen. This helps to add volume and elevates the depressions in the skin, revealing a smoother appearance. Some of the most commonly treated areas include the smile lines, marionette lines (running along the sides of the mouth), nose, cheeks, chin, and jaw line. In some cases, Radiesse has been used to augment thin lips.

Although rare, a side effect of the Radiesse treatments is the appearance of “nodules,” which are collections of tissue that look like knots or knobs. Most cases may require steroid treatment, while more extreme circumstances entail surgical intervention.

HOW ARE RADIESSE® INJECTIONS PERFORMED?

A local anesthetic may be used to help minimize discomfort prior to the injections. Depending on the area(s) to be treated, this process may take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Patients will notice results immediately following the treatment, after which they may return to their daily routine.

After the Radiesse injections are administered, there may be some swelling. However, this should subside within 24 to 36 hours. It is highly recommended to avoid direct exposure to the sun and wear sunscreen following treatment.

IS RADIESSE® RIGHT FOR ME?

Individuals who have shallow or deep creases on the facial skin due to loss of collagen may be ideal candidates for Radiesse injections. Candidates typically range between the ages of 35 and 60, and are experiencing mild to moderate facial aging. Radiesse may also greatly benefit those suffering from vocal cord insufficiency, facial lipoatrophy, or oral and maxillofacial defects.

HOW LONG DOES RADIESSE® LAST?

Patients who receive Radiesse injections may anticipate results lasting up to about two years.
