When a patient begins a search to find a plastic surgeon, one of the most common things he or she is not aware of is that there is a difference between a plastic surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon. Cosmetic surgery is performed by many physicians, and unfortunately, some are not under the guidance of a properly credentialed board. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only board acknowledged and approved by the National Board of Medical Specialties. That means members certified by that board are held to the highest standards as it pertains to skills, knowledge, judgment, safety and ethics in that particular specialty.
Dr. Robert D. Wilcox is one of the leaders in the field of plastic surgery and was recently named one of the Top 10 MD, America’s first and only standards-based patient advocacy service. Only one in three doctors succeeds with this recognition in the US.
Dr. Wilcox is the Founder and Director of the Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Center of Teas. After graduating from Texas A&M University Magna Cum Laude, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical school in Dallas, graduating near the top of his class. After medical school, Dr. Wilcox completed eight years of resident training in three specialties. He trained in General Surgery at the University of Florida. Afterward, he returned to Dallas for his Plastic Surgery training at the University Of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Following that, he was invited to remain as a Fellow in Hand and Microsurgery at Southwestern. He attained Board Certification in all three specialties, a testament to his dedication to quality and excellence.
