Eyelid Surgery in Plano, TX

If you’re looking for eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in Plano, Frisco, or the greater Dallas metro area, visit Dr. Wilcox at the Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas. As a highly skilled and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, he can help you make your aesthetic goals a reality!

How Can I Benefit from Eyelid Surgery?

Over time, gravity and genetics can wreak havoc on the eyelids, making you look older and more exhausted prematurely. In some cases, droopy eyelids can even cause vision problems. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can reverse the visible signs of aging in the upper and lower eyelids, including drooping, puffiness, and sagging. This procedure cannot address crow’s feet and other wrinkles, sagging eyebrows, or dark circles underneath the eyes; to correct these problems, eyelid surgery may be combined with other facial surgery procedures such as a brow lift or facelift.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Good candidates for this procedure are men and women, usually at least 35 years old, who demonstrate good physical and emotional health, as well as realistic expectations for the outcome of this surgical procedure. Other good candidates may be younger, but suffer from baggy, droopy eyelids due to genetics. Patients who also experience dry eyes (insufficient tear production), glaucoma, or a detached retina have a slightly increased risk of complications.

By removing excess skin and tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids, Dr. Wilcox can help you restore a more youthful, alert appearance in the eye area. If the drooping of your eyelids block your vision, then correcting this problem can help you regain full use of your eyesight.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

During this procedure, small, discreet incisions are made within the eyelids’ natural lines to allow the removal of excess fat. Sagging muscle and skin are trimmed, and then the skin is sutured.

Sometimes, only fatty deposits need to be extracted from the lower eyelid; the skin remains elastic and needs no trimming. In these cases, Dr. Wilcox may perform a particular procedure called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, in which the incision is made inside the lower eyelid. This results in the complete absence of a visible scar. This procedure works best for younger patients with highly elastic and firmer skin.

After the surgery, you will need a special ointment for your eyes, and you may be instructed to wear a bandage. For the first several days, your eyelids may feel sore or tight, and you will be advised to keep your head elevated. Over the next few weeks, some patients experience excessive tearing, light sensitivity, and temporary changes in vision such as blurring; these symptoms diminish gradually as your tissues heal. Any bruising and swelling will subside over time, revealing your newly toned eyelids.

Eyelid Surgery Results and Your Expectations

Having realistic expectations is a key part of patient satisfaction. During your consultation, Dr. Wilcox will discuss your treatment goals and likely outcomes. Eyelid surgery will not transform your overall appearance, nor will it address such concerns as crow’s feet, sagging eyebrows, or dark circles underneath your eyes. Blepharoplasty can help you to look as young and alert as you feel, thus enhancing your self-confidence; with proper exercise, nutrition and skin care habits, your eyelid surgery results can last for years to come.
