What is Ultrasonic liposuction?

Ultrasonic liposuction is a technique of liposuction that uses advanced ultrasound technology to gently sculpt the body. The ultrasound energy is delivered through small caliber probes that emit energy that helps breakdown and liquify stubborn areas of fat for easy removal. The ultrasound energy serves to weaken and breakdown the fat cell membrane but preserves the integrity of surrounding structures such as nerves and blood vessels.  This helps to minimize bleeding and bruising. The heat generated by the ultrasound energy can also help promote better skin tightening for a smooth contour.  

Who is a suitable candidate for Ultrasonic Liposuction?

The ideal candidate for ultrasonic liposuction should be in good general health and at or near their ideal weight. Prospective patients tend to have particularly stubborn areas of fat deposition that have been resistant to diet and exercise. These areas may be the “muffin top” or “love handle” areas, “saddle bags” of the outer thighs, abdomen, arms or chin.

What is the Ultrasonic liposuction process?

Ultrasonic liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under a general anesthetic. The local anesthetic consists of saline fluid with lidocaine and adrenaline to squeeze blood vessels to reduce bleeding.  The local or “Tumescent” fluid is injected into the treatment area and then the high-frequency ultrasound energy is delivered to the stubborn area to be treated. Once the fat is broken down, the fat is then removed using a hollow instrument attached to suction.

What is it like after the procedure?

After the treatment, a bandage and compression garment is worn over the treated areas. The garments are worn 24hr/day except for bathing for 3-4 weeks. Pain medication is prescribed for a short period to help in the healing process.  The patient can ambulate on the day of surgery, but resumption of strenuous activity ie; workouts is delayed for 3-4 weeks

What are the results like?

The ultrasonic liposuction technique allows the surgeon greater control of the fat removal process.
